It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the passing of David A. Lester who passed away on July 2, 2023, at SOMC Hospice. He was born May 6, 1945, in Portsmouth to the late George F. and Helen Mae Spry Lester.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving daughter Christina Marie Niekamp and 2 brothers; Donald and Bernard Lester.
Dave was a United States Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from the City of Portsmouth Tax Division as a Tax Deputy. He also attended Nauvoo Methodist Church in West Portsmouth.
He is survived by his wife Pamela J. Thacker Lester, whom he married on October 20, 1973, in Portsmouth, a daughter, Cinamon L. (Timothy) Wellington, 2 granddaughters: Zoe M. Niekamp, Paisley Wellington, a sister Marilyn Thompson, a brother Paul Lester along with several wonderful nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 9, 2023, at the Roger W. Davis Funeral home in West Portsmouth, with Pastor Pete Shaffer officiating, Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park with military graveside rites provided by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday starting at 12:00 PM Noon.
The family would like to thank SOMC ICU, PCU, and Hospice for their excellent care, and to our loving Team of Medical Professionals: Dr. Saab, Dr. Watson, Dr. Liu for never giving up on him and his favorite nurse Alexis and to Candy for her love and devotion.
