A trusted treasurer who was supposed to help raise money for school kids ended up stealing it instead \u2014 more than\u00a0<\/span>$40,000<\/span><\/b>\u00a0in total.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Officials say\u00a0<\/span>Lisa Frisby, 46<\/span><\/b>, the former treasurer of a Wellston City Schools booster club, was sentenced to\u00a0<\/span>24 months\u00a0in prison<\/span><\/b>\u00a0after a Jackson County jury found her guilty of\u00a0<\/span>felony grand theft<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>telecommunications fraud<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the sentencing, saying, \u201cShe disgraced herself and betrayed the trust of students, parents, and teachers. Hats off to the investigators and prosecutors who secured justice for the community.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Years of Embezzlement Hidden in Plain Sight<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An investigation by Yost\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Charitable Law Section<\/span><\/b>\u00a0uncovered that Frisby embezzled money for personal use during her five years overseeing the finances of the now-defunct\u00a0<\/span>Big W Football Boosters<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With full control over the accounts, Frisby managed to hide the theft \u2014 until the club\u2019s vice president grew suspicious and obtained bank statements that\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0match the numbers Frisby reported.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Restitution Ordered<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of her sentence, Frisby was ordered to\u00a0<\/span>repay $40,200<\/span><\/b>\u00a0to the\u00a0<\/span>Golden Rocket Athletic Boosters<\/span><\/b>, the successor to the Big W Football Boosters. She repaid the full amount by\u00a0check\u00a0during her sentencing hearing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The case was prosecuted by attorneys from Yost\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Special Prosecutions Section<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
