100 MPH Chase Ends With Taser in the Woods

What started as deputies checking on an evicted property turned into a full-blown rural crime saga complete with a midnight return, a 100 mph chase, a suspect diving out a car window, and a Taser deployment in the woods. And somehow… that still wasn’t the strangest part. According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were asked to periodically check a property after the owner said recently evicted tenants had been sneaking back onto the land during nighttime hours. The homeowner also warned deputies one of the former tenants had an active felony warrant. When deputies first arrived to check the property, they spotted a suspicious blue car sitting in the driveway. But before they could move in, the car vanished. That’s when things escalated. Deputies spread out along State Route 141 looking for the vehicle. One deputy spotted the car heading back toward the property. As soon as deputies turned around, the driver allegedly floored it. According to the report, the car blasted down the road at speeds topping 100 mph, with deputies struggling to catch up. Another deputy positioned near the property eventually watched the speeding vehicle come flying back into the driveway. That’s when the driver made his next move. Instead of opening the door, deputies say the driver climbed out through the driver’s side window and sprinted straight into the woods. Deputies gave chase on foot. Once deep in the woods, a deputy deployed a Taser, striking the suspect and knocking him to the ground. But even then, the chaos wasn’t over. Deputies say the man refused commands, kept reaching into his pants, and eventually threw an object into the woods before finally surrendering. The suspect — identified as Shawn Delong — was taken into custody on an active warrant. Then came another twist. The suspect reportedly claimed the object he threw was only a marijuana pipe. But deputies searching the wet woods found a dry container holding suspected methamphetamine. Investigators noted the ground and surrounding area were soaked from rain, but the container itself was dry. The substance later field-tested positive for amphetamines.
