New Boston Police and Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies were involved in a 2 am hot pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 mph.  NBPD said the 2011 Kia was going around 100 mph on US 52 East.

Deputies caught up with them near the Center Street.  The Kia took the 522 Exit, jumped the guard rail, and kept on driving.

The vehicle wrecked out at Gallia Pike and 522, and the driver took off on foot.  Deputies and NBPD officers searched the woods and surrounding area and also called in Ohio State Troopers.

Officers weren’t able to determine if the registered owner of the car was the driver. However, they learned Portsmouth Police had spotted the driver shortly before the chase began. The officer arranged for the vehicle to be towed.

Just after 5 am, officers headed to the home of the registered owner of the vehicle. However, they weren’t able to make contact.

Later that afternoon, a caller reported the Kia had been stolen from the lot at Giovanni’s in Sciotoville sometime overnight.  The owner wrote a statement for the officer regarding the individual to whom he loaned the vehicle.

The report did not indicate that a suspect was arrested. The jail records don’t show anyone booked for a stolen vehicle or eluding police.
