Portsmouth Police Officers responded to a call for help from a 14-year-old girl just after 1:15 a.m. She said she was followed from Wayne Hills to the Speedway while walking home to her house on Poplar Avenue.
Officers contacted the child’s parents, who headed to pick her up. However, they thought the father might not show up because he had an open warrant.
The mother arrived to get the girl, and police learned she’d snuck out of the house to visit a boyfriend. They did not take a report due to the fact that the girl had conflicting stories about what had happened.
Publisher’s Note: It is worth noting that Portsmouth does have a curfew. That law could have easily been applied in this situation.
