2 Retire From Scioto County Sheriff’s Office

Two more officers from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office retired on Wednesday. The pair join recently retired Captain John Murphy in ending long careers with the agency. Sheriff Marty Donini will retire at the end of his term this year. David Thoroughman is set to replace him. Thoroughman won the spring primary election and is running unopposed for Sheriff on the November ballot.

Retiring after decades of service to the community are:

Deputy Paul Bloomfield

Deputy Paul Bloomfield served the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office for 21 years. Commenters on Facebook thanked him for helping to keep kids safe over the years.

“Thanks for watching out for all of us, especially our kids when they were teenagers.”

“Thanks, Paul for your service and keeping our Clay Schools safe.”

Captain Shawn Sparks

Captain Shawn Sparks also has a long history of 25 years of service to the department.  Commenters on the agency’s Facebook page praised Sparks for his assistance in their struggles with addiction.

“You made a huge impact on my recovery. I remember you bringing me into your office showing me photos of myself over the years and telling me I was better than that. I will never forget that it has always stuck with me and always will. You’re a great man!”

“Even in my addiction, he was always a caring soul then. When I got clean and started going into the jail for H&I, I got to know him well. A great man right here.”

Wish Them Well

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there won’t be a public ceremony to honor the officers.  Sheriff Donini said anyone wishing to congratulate the officers and send cards to this address:

Scioto County Sheriff’s Office

1025 Sixteenth Street

Portsmouth, Ohio 45662

The Sheriff also suggested leaving a message on the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
