What started as a routine school day quickly turned into a serious child welfare investigation after a troubling discovery was made involving two young students.
According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were contacted after Child Protective Services arrived at the sheriff’s office to file a report and turn over evidence connected to an ongoing investigation.
CPS supervisors advised that two juvenile girls are the subjects of an active sexual abuse investigation. The allegations were first brought to light by staff at a local elementary school, where employees noticed something concerning while assisting the children with changing clothes.
School staff reported discovering what appeared to be pubic hair inside the children’s undergarments. The school immediately notified Child Protective Services, which opened an investigation and began coordinating with law enforcement.
Evidence Collected and Secured
CPS workers collected the undergarments, along with related items, and later turned them over to the sheriff’s office. Deputies photographed the items and secured them into evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
CPS advised that a caseworker had already visited the children’s residence as part of the inquiry. Investigators noted that no adult males were living in the home at the time, though pets were present.
Investigation Ongoing
The case remains active and under investigation, with both Child Protective Services and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office involved. The evidence collected will be reviewed as part of determining what occurred and whether criminal charges are warranted.
Authorities have not released additional details due to the ages of the children involved and the sensitive nature of the case.
