A man who says he paid more than $22,000 toward a piece of property is now caught in a dispute over who has the right to sell the land.
The disagreement involves a land contract, a property owner’s estate and conflicting claims about payments made toward the purchase.
According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office report, a man contacted deputies after a dispute arose over property he had been purchasing through a land contract.

He said the arrangement became complicated following the death of the original property owner.
The man reported that he had paid approximately $22,000 toward the purchase and believed he had fulfilled his obligations under the agreement.
However, a dispute developed over the terms of the contract and whether the property could be sold to someone else.
Estate Representative Disputes the Agreement
The deputy also spoke with a representative of the deceased owner’s estate, who provided a different account of the transaction.
According to the report, the estate representative questioned the status of the land contract and whether the buyer had met its requirements.

Both sides provided information supporting their positions.
Deputies Document Dispute
The sheriff’s report classified the matter as a forgery or fraud complaint, but it does not establish that a forgery occurred.
No arrest was documented.
