5 Most Shocking Deadly Cases of 2023

Scioto County is, sadly, no stranger to violence. However, there were five cases this year that were particularly shocking and a suspected triple homicide remains unsolved. Here’s a countdown of our five most shocking cases. Triple Homicide in Lucasville Back on July 22, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call from parents who found their son’s lifeless body in a Lucasville home. When deputies investigated, they found a man deceased in a camper and two more lifeless bodies in a second camper on the property. Ohio BCI and local detectives investigated, transferring the bodies to Montgomery County for a forensic investigation. The Scioto County Sheriff identified the victims as Heather James, 45, Pete O’Brian Eldridge, 35, and James (Jay) Andronis, 68. All three resided at the McLaughlin Rd. location where the incident occurred. Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said the incidents were being investigated as homicides. But there have been no further statements from officials on the matter. Woman Charged With Murder After Mowing Down Motorcyclist On September, 28, Brooklyn Frazie landed behind bars after ops say she purposely hit a motorcyclist with her SUV after chasing him across the county. The resulting fatal accident in New Boston led to a shutdown of US 52 that stopped traffic for several hours. Around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, multiple people called 9-1-1 to report a woman in an SUV chasing a man on a motorcycle. Horrifically, witnesses said she hit him near the CVS on Gallia, then ran over again and intentionally dragged him before running over him again. The victim, Darrell Scott Donahoe, age 44, died as a result of his injuries. The coroner transported his body to Montgomery County for forensic investigation. Detectives arrested Brooklyn Frazie, 41, of Portsmouth for murder and reckless homicide. According to her Facebook posts, she was in a relationship with Donahoe for two and a half years. A relative of Donahoe contacted SCDN and said the victim had recently broken up with Ms. Frazie. Frazie’s attorney attempted to get her conditionally released from prison back on December 12. That matter is still before the court. She’s due back in court on January 5 for a pre-trial hearing. Parolee Admits Murdering Scioto County Man Parolee Kennith Nelson, 29, confessed to murdering Scioto County resident Luke Bricker and entered a guilty plea in Pike County Court. Judge Rob Junk sentenced him to a sentence of 18 years to life in prison. Just after midnight on May 28, a Pike County caller initially reported a man lying in the road on St. Rt. 772 covered in blood and said he believed the victim was deceased and had possibly been hit by a car. When deputies and EMS arrived on the scene, they discovered that Luke Bricker had been shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries. The Southern Ohio Major Crimes Taskforce, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation with assistance from state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies. Investigators quickly identified Kennith Nelson as a person of interest. Nelson was on parole at the time, and officers took him into custody for parole violation. According to the Pike County Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation was extensive with detectives serving dozens of search warrants in multiple counties, which resulted in the collection of hundreds of pieces of evidence. When confronted with the case against him, Nelson agreed to plead guilty to murder with a firearms specification. Teen Indicted For Murder at Party Local authorities launched a manhunt for a 17-year-old they described as armed and dangerous after a deadly shooting a party. Back on August 3, officers were called to an Aaron Road home around 1 a.m. after Aden Greene allegedly shot Nathaniel “Nate” Chase Mcquinley during a party. Mcquinley died at the scene and Greene took off. Officers launched a manhunt for Greene, whom they described as possibly armed and dangerous, and investigated several sightings of the teen before he finally turned himself in to authorities. The Scioto County Grand Jury returned two murder indictments against the teenager. He’s charged as an adult, but is currently being held in the Ross County Juvenile Detention Center. Back on December 4, his attorney waived his right to a speedy trial. Killer Cops Plea in Death of Beloved Restaurant Employees The man responsible for the deaths of two beloved Portsmouth restaurant employees pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary manslaughter with a firearms specification and was sentenced to almost 30 years in jail with limitations on his ability to receive parole. Anthony Kearns, was on parole for a 2017 robbery, when the deadly double shooting happened in Portsmouth back in November of 2022. You’ll remember Kearns evaded capture for an extended period of time. He was ultimately located in Jackson County and brought back to Scioto County to stand before the judge.
