We asked our youngest staff member to give us an honest list of the “Top 5 Activities in Scioto County”. He sent out the question to his friends on Snapchat. From their perspective, this is what we learned. I was surprised. Will you be?

“Top 5 Activities in Scioto County”
Antique Shop
If a teen needs something to do in Portsmouth, they would be hard-pressed to find something more interesting than exploring the local antique shops. Along 2nd Street, there are a whopping six antique stores, meaning that a bored teenager has plenty to explore. With vintage movies, music, instruments and other unique items, there is bound to be something that the teenager finds interesting, and if they do decide to make a purchase, they can rest easy knowing they just supported a local business. Speaking of local business, Market Street Cafe is located just a few minutes away from these antique stores, so if someone’s feeling hungry after a round of shopping, they can enjoy some fresh cuisine from another small business in Portsmouth.
Do An Escape Room
One of the most recent additions to Scioto County’s recreation options is Mr. Boneyfiddle’s Riddle Room, a series of escape rooms located in Portsmouth. For those unaware, an escape room is a game where people are locked into a specific room or set of rooms and are tasked with solving puzzles and finding clues that will eventually allow them to escape from the room, and they are only given a set amount of time to do this, or they lose. Mr. Boneyfiddle’s website currently has three different rooms listed, each costing $25 a player. If someone has a little bit of extra cash on their hands, this is certainly a fun way to spend an evening with friends.
Go Bowling
If someone’s looking for a little bit more traditional leisure activity, they can’t go wrong with the local bowling alley in Portsmouth. Sunset Lanes is an all-age bowling ally with all of the amenities you would expect from such an establishment. For a fun night with either family or friends, it is hard to go wrong with a visit to Sunset Lanes.
Make Some Pottery
The Happy Pot is another local business that is helping to provide entertainment for all ages, but it can be especially fun for teenagers. While you do have the option to walk into The Happy Pot’s studio in Portsmouth, you can also choose their Mobile Party option, which is where they bring a van full of pottery to a specific event. If a group of teenagers needs something to do in Scioto County, they can not only express their creativity at The Happy Pot but also make a beautiful piece of art that they get to keep after they’re done.
Go to Walmart
This might seem like a cop-out, but after speaking with teens throughout Scioto County, this was one of the most prominent responses when they were asked what they did for fun. The New Boston Walmart may not seem like a very fun place to spend your time, especially if you aren’t buying anything, but between browsing the items in the store and the display arcade cabinets that can be found in the electronics section, there is a surprising amount of entertainment to be found at Scioto County’s local Walmart.
