6 Pets That Sleep a Lot

1. Ferrets
On average, this small animal sleeps about 16 hours daily. It evolved from the European polecat and lives as long as a decade. Watch ferrets closely when they’re awake; they can open cabinets and crawl inside of reclining chairs.
2. Cats
Felines truly live up to their reputation for slumber. Many cats sleep 14 to 16 hours. Kittens may seem more active at times, but they remain awake less than 145 minutes per day!
3. Dogs
Despite a more energetic image, adult dogs only sleep 7 to 12 percent less than cats. Puppies enjoy around 19 hours of slumber. Elderly dogs and cats both need somewhat more rest than their middle-aged counterparts.
4. Geckos
The crested gecko only stays awake for half of the hours in a day. This nocturnal lizard generally lives about seven or eight years, and it measures up to eight inches long. Geckos have an omnivorous diet.
5. Parrots
A domesticated parrot normally rests for at least 10 hours or a maximum of 12. This eye-catching, talkative bird has a remarkably long life span. Some species live as long as 60 to 90 years.
6. Mice
Pet mice demand less time and effort than most domesticated animals. A mouse devotes about 50 to 58 percent of its life to slumber. This nocturnal rodent has plenty of energy when it wakes up. Be sure to handle it carefully.
