8 Grand to Bring Electric to Airport Sign

Scioto County Commissioners

Getting power to the new sign at Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport is proving to be a surprisingly costly undertaking. The sign is part of the improvements at the airport and nearby SOAR business park.

Last week, Scioto County Commissioners approved $1,400 for AEP to install a transformer on a pole to service the sign.  But AEP won’t run the power line. That work falls to an electrical contractor who will run the necessary lines underground.

Commissioners approved $6,780 for that work. Commissioner Davis explained the reason for the cost. “It’s quite a run to do that. And they are also navigating water and gas lines. They have to do all of that. It’s a slow process.  This should get us where we need to be. The sign is done. We’ve just been waiting for power.”

Commissioners unanimously approved the expenditure.
