Manhunt Mania: West Portsmouth Attempted Murder Suspect Apprehended
A West Portsmouth man has been arrested on charges of attempted murder following a harrowing incident that unfolded on Wednesday afternoon. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call reporting a male suspect wreaking havoc at a residence on 3rd Street in West Portsmouth. With swift coordination and assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, law enforcement embarked on a dangerous chase that led to the suspect’s eventual capture.
According to Sheriff David Thoroughman, the female caller described a terrifying scene where the suspect shattered windows, discharged a firearm, and threatened to harm deputies. Deputies and detectives sprang into action, conducting a thorough search of the area after the suspect fled on foot. Utilizing advanced technology, detectives were able to trace the suspect’s location through his cell phone signal, pinpointing him in the notorious “bottoms” area of West Portsmouth.
Amidst a tense manhunt, deputies and detectives combed through the rugged terrain, eventually discovering the suspect concealed within a brushy area. However, the chase was far from over, as the suspect bolted from the scene, making a daring escape. Authorities closely followed his every move, and at 3:36 p.m., detectives observed him walking across the Twin Bridges, then leaping off the bridge, and landing in a brushy area on the Portsmouth side of the river. Undeterred, the suspect continued to flee on foot, making his way towards a field behind Bertha Avenue.
Sheriff Thoroughman emphasized the collaborative efforts between multiple law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety. With the assistance of the Portsmouth Police, the surrounding area was secured, leading to a pivotal moment in the pursuit. A Common Pleas Probation Officer spotted the suspect hiding behind a tree in the grassy farmland behind Bertha Avenue. Working in tandem with local law enforcement, the suspect was apprehended without further incident. Notably, a 9mm handgun was recovered from the suspect.
Medical professionals from Portsmouth Ambulance swiftly arrived at the scene to tend to the suspect’s minor injuries sustained from his dramatic leap off the bridge. Identified as Jonathan Mosley, a 35-year-old resident of West Portsmouth, he now faces a litany of charges including attempted murder, improperly discharging a firearm, felonious assault, and more. Mosley is currently in custody, held on a substantial bond of $197,750.00.
Mosely has a long arrest record, with at least 20 prior visits to the Scioto County Jail.
Previous charges include parole violation, failure to comply with a police order, receiving stolen property, breaking and entering, domestic violence, probation violation, forgery, driving under a suspension, theft, petty theft, drug possession, criminal damaging, burglary, failure to appear, theft of a firearm, disorderly conduct, failure to control a vehicle, leaving the scene, theft of a motor vehicle, and failing to wear his seatbelt.
