Officers investigated multiple calls involving pit bulls and other dogs.
Around 10 a.m., a caller reported a high man pushing a shopping cart on Vinton Avenue accompanied by an unleashed pit bull.
When officers arrived on the scene, they spoke to the man and determined he was not intoxicated. However, he had let go of his dog’s leash. Police cautioned him.
At noon, officers discovered a loose dog on Hutchins Street. An animal control officer took custody of the dog.
A Thomas Avenue caller contacted police at 4:30 p.m. to say a driver hit and killed her dog in the middle of the road. She claimed the driver swerved into the dog.
Police spoke to the dog owner and explained there was nothing they could do as people are supposed to keep their dogs out of the road.
A High Street resident called police at 5 p.m. to report two strange pit bulls on their porch. Officers contacted animal control and searched for the owners. However, the owners were not home and the dogs took off before animal control could get there. They said they would attempt to find the owners the next day.
