A disagreement over digging a ditch ended with two men behind bars after one of them pulled a gun during a drunken squabble.
Officers first learned of the problem when they were called to a dispute between neighbors on Township Road 317.
When they arrived, a man said he’d just moved into his home and was waiting for a final sewer inspection. He said his drunken neighbor had come over to his house and told him he needed to put a ditch in. The man then began to argue with the homeowner’s parents and shoved them.
He said he stepped in, shoved the man, and then punched him in the face when he shoved him back. He said the drunken neighbor’s brother went into his home and came out with a shotgun.
Officers then spoke to the brothers, who agreed that the neighbor’s version of events was mostly true, except he denied shoving the neighbor’s mom. Officers noted the man appeared highly intoxicated and spotted the shotgun on a table on the porch.
Officers arrested both brothers. One was charged with drunk and disorderly conduct, and the other with drunk and disorderly conduct, using weapons while intoxicated, and a charge on an open warrant.
Guns Drawn in ATV Dispute
A dispute over people riding ATVs in the street turned into a bit of a standoff just before 3pm. A caller said he went out in front of his home to stop people riding ATVs in the street.
After an argument, he said one of the ATV riders showed him a gun. He said his grandson then pulled out a gun, and everyone was still arguing in the street.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found there were three juvenile ATV riders left. None of them had a weapon. The kids showed officers a video of the man’s grandson standing in the yard with a rifle. However, he did not point it at them or make threats.
Officers advised the kids that they could not ride their ATVs in the road.
