Accused Sexual offender out on bail

The 38-year-old Sciotoville woman, charged with four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor after police say a 15-year-old boy’s grandfather caught her in bed with the teen, has a lawyer. (And your tax dollars are paying for it.)

Rebecca Constance Jones appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court and was deemed indigent at her preliminary hearing. In fact, Judge Russell D. Kegley decided she was so broke she didn’t even have to pay the $25 fee to apply for a public defender.

Attorney Ruth Buckler was appointed as Jones’ counsel. The case was waived to a Grand Jury. Jones was released on a $30,000 bail.

The boy told a detective from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office that he’d had sexual relations with Jones and that drugs were involved. Detectives got confirmation of that story by checking out some Snapchat videos.

Jones could still be in a lot more trouble. At the time of her arrest, Captain John W. Murphy, of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators have gotten tips that Jones has additional underage victims, so the investigation is still ongoing.

Depending on what they find, additional information may be presented to the grand jury later on down the line. Anyone with information should contact Detective Jodi Conkel @ 740-351-1091.

Update: Since this story was published, we have been informed by Robert T. Trujillo of the Faulkner Law office, that he has been retained to represent Ms. Jones in this case.
