Aileen Clara Burton, 92, of West Portsmouth, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at her home. She was born July 18, 1928, in West Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Curtis Albert and Anna Mae Newman Swords.
Aileen was a homemaker and she had worked at the former Mack’s Department Store. She attended and was the pianist at the former Church of Jesus Christ on Carey’s Run.
Her husband, Vernon E.W. Burton, preceded her in death on February 5, 2013. The couple was married April 16, 1949 in Greenup, KY.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosanna Cope of Newport News, VA and Velveeta Mae “Eydie” (Rodney) Neace of Portsmouth; one sister, Katherine (Ronald) Osman of Winchester; her grandson and caregiver, David Neace; three grandchildren, Lori and Buck Cope and Sabrina Cline; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Harold Burton; and nine siblings, Carl, Robert Raymond, Oscar and Tessie Swords, Agnes Dionne, Tharlene Crabtree, Arlene Jenkins, Flossie Mitchell and Commie Mae Leslie.
Private services will be held under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
