Ambulance Crisis – Elderly Woman Waits For Help
A Union Township woman in distress had to wait for an ambulance after an incident on Friday evening.
Just before 6:30 pm, officers responded to a report of an elderly woman in need of a rescue squad on High Street. There was no response from the first squad dispatch paged, but just a few minutes later, another squad responded to the scene.
That ambulance requested an air ambulance to transport the woman. However, Air Evac 97 was not available, and advised dispatch the nearest available ambulance was 45 minutes away. At 7:30 pm, the rescue squad said it would start heading towards the hospital and divert to a landing zone if a chopper was available. MedFlight initially said they would respond, but later said there were no air ambulances available in the area.
The rescue squad transported the woman to SOMC.
