Ambulance Delayed after Motorcycle Crash on US 52

Getting an ambulance to the scene proved to be a challenge after a motorcycle crashed into a pole on US 52 between the 2 and 3 MM on Sunday afternoon.

The call came in at 1:10 pm with a report of electric lines down. Dispatch contacted the Ohio State Patrol and paged for an EMS Squad. They ended up requesting aid from Adams County and attempted to arrange for an air ambulance.

Air Evac was not available, and MedFlight was placed on standby.

Half an hour later, Adams County was able to dispatch EMS. They arrived on the scene at 1:55 pm. After arranging a landing zone, Medflight arrived at 2:10 pm. 

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol report, Beecher Wright,75, from Portsmouth was seriously injured. The highway was closed for an hour.

Update

Soon after this article was published, we spoke with the ambulance driver for Nile Township. According to the Nile Township run sheet, their ambulance crew arrived shortly after the fire trucks.

The driver stated, “I forgot to mark on scene due to the fact the patient was my first priority and he was still (laying) in the weeds”.

Thank you to all the rescue workers, nearly all volunteers, that responded to this serious incident.
