A combination of weather and staffing issues made it difficult to get help to those in need over the weekend.
Just before 4 am on Saturday, a woman contacted police and said her son had been in an accident on Great Meadow Road and appeared to be injured.
OSP and an EMS squad responded to the scene. The squad requested an air ambulance to transport the man to the hospital, however, Medflight was not able to respond due to the weather.
Three hours later, a Linwood Avenue resident contacted deputies and requested they remove a mentally ill woman from her home.
Deputies said they had been to the home on multiple previous occasions. They requested a local squad for the woman, but no one was available.
Dispatch called Portsmouth Ambulance, who originally didn’t answer, but on the second call, said they didn’t have a crew.
Dispatch checked with surrounding squads, but they were unable to leave the township. Eventually, the woman was transported to the hospital and admitted to the ER.
On Sunday evening, two men were injured while working on a porch on Harrison Avenue and required medical attention.
Portsmouth Ambulance didn’t have a crew available to 911 checked with Portsmouth to see if they had a crew available. When Porter Township EMS arrived on the scene, they said there was only one patient, so no help was needed from Portsmouth.
