An argument over anime videos spiraled into a violent domestic dispute that deputies say left scratches, a broken bedroom door, and an infant caught in the middle.
Deputies responded to a domestic violence complaint at a home on County Road 53.
According to the report, the teenage couple told deputies the fight began while they were watching videos together. The male told deputies the argument started after he watched a fighting anime that included a female character wearing revealing clothing.
He said the disagreement escalated when the girl threw an object at him before kicking, scratching, and punching him.
According to the report, the teen said he grabbed the couple’s infant son to get him away from the confrontation, but alleged the girl continued attacking him and accidentally struck the child during the struggle.
He told deputies he fled into another bedroom, locked the door, and called his parents while the girl allegedly kicked, hit, and eventually broke through the door trying to get inside.
The girl gave deputies a different version of events.
She told investigators she became upset because of the videos being watched and admitted throwing a small toy to get his attention. She alleged the boy then took her phone and later choked her during the confrontation. She said she kicked him to break free and denied intentionally assaulting him.
Deputies observed visible scratch marks on the boy’s arm, which were photographed as evidence. According to the report, no visible injuries were observed on the girl.
After interviewing both teens and reviewing the evidence, deputies arrested both juveniles on domestic violence allegations. They were transported to the Lawrence County Juvenile Center.
Teen Dating Violence Is More Common Than Many Realize
Domestic violence isn’t limited to adults. Law enforcement agencies across Ohio regularly respond to violent incidents involving teenage dating relationships.
Experts say warning signs include controlling behavior, jealousy, verbal abuse, threats, damaging property, and physical violence. Parents are encouraged to take those warning signs seriously and seek counseling or other intervention before arguments escalate.
When children are present during violent confrontations, the emotional and physical risks increase dramatically—even if they are not the intended target.
