Tony Wallace, 73, passed away July 7, 2020, at King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY., following a short illness. He was born at home in Jackson, OH., on April 27, 1947, a son of the late Pearl E. Wallace and Mary Grace Crabtree Wallace.
Tony came to Greenup County, KY., in 1970 to teach at Wurtland High School in Wurtland, KY., then went to the new Greenup County High School in Lloyd, KY., when it opened in 1972. He served as Principal at Sunshine Elementary in South Shore, KY., for a short time in the 1980s, but then went back to teaching at GCHS until finishing his last year before retiring as Assistant Principal at McKell Middle School in South Shore, KY. The next school year he decided he wasn’t done with educating, so he went on to teach several years at Notre Dame High School in Portsmouth, OH.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his father in law William Cowan.
Tony’s family was everything to him. He was a caring husband to his wife of 37 years Janice Cowan Wallace, beloved father to daughter Megan (Rick) Stepp of Lesage, WV., and son Thomas (Sandy) Wallace of ST. Augustine, FL; two granddaughters, Piper and Sawyer Wallace were the light of his life. He was so looking forward to seeing them this summer. He is also survived by two sisters, Lynn Wallace of Flatwoods, KY., and Lee (Randall) Carver of South Shore, KY; mother in law, June Cowan; two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside services will be 1 P.M. Sunday, July 12, 2020, at Siloam Cemetery in South Shore, KY., with Rev. Kenny Fox officiating. Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., are caring for arrangements.
