West Portsmouth, OH – Powered paragliding enthusiasts have marked their calendars! The renowned Dave Purdin Fly-In is set to make its return to Earl Thomas Conley Park in West Portsmouth from September 1 to 4. With pilots already registering from over 10 states and Canada, the event promises to be a soaring spectacle against the picturesque backdrop of the Ohio Valley.

Dave Purdin, founder of the event and a lifelong resident of Adams County, expressed his excitement about hosting the Fly-In in West Portsmouth once again. “The topography with the mountains, waterways, eagles, and farmland here is truly unparalleled,” Purdin said. Joining him in the preparations is his wife, Amy, who not only has a knack for organization but is also an avid flyer, often spotted enjoying tandem rides alongside her husband.

While the inaugural event took off at Brush Creek Motor Sports in Adams County years ago, Earl Thomas Conley Park has been its consistent home for the past five years, making it a familiar and beloved spot for many returning pilots.

Powered paragliding events, or PPGs, have taken place in over 30 states, but Purdin believes there’s something uniquely communal and spectacular about the Fly-In in Ohio Valley. “Beyond the scenic beauty, it’s the camaraderie and shared passion that makes this event truly special,” he shared.

New attendees can look forward to a unique flying experience, including the majestic sight of powered parachutes. As described by past attendee Audra Watts Gorospe, “Powered parachutes resemble a side-by-side ATV attached to a parachute, steered with feet rather than hands.”

Set to be held at 5888 US-52, Earl Thomas Conley Park, West Portsmouth the 24th Dave Purdin Fly-In is gearing up to be an event to remember. Whether you’re a pilot, an enthusiast, or simply curious, be sure to mark the dates and join in on the festivities.
