Arrested, Convicted, Released—All in a Day at Kroger

Jail revolving door

A shoplifting call at Kroger on Gay Street led to an arrest just blocks away—and a quick trip through court.

Officers were dispatched after a report that a man wearing a blue jacket and khakis had stolen items from the store and was walking along the Gay Street side near Tracy Park.

Police quickly caught up with the suspect and identified him as Salvatore Dipuma.

He was arrested and charged with theft and a probation violation.

Dipuma later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where he waived his right to counsel and pleaded guilty.

The court sentenced him to 90 days in jail, with all 90 days suspended, and placed him on three years of probation.

He was then released from jail.
