Arson Investigation: Woman Allegedly Sends Photos of Burning Couch to Ex

A house fire investigation took a disturbing turn after deputies say a woman allegedly photographed a burning couch and sent the images to her ex during an alcohol-fueled emotional breakdown. And investigators later uncovered handwritten notes suggesting the woman believed she might not survive the night. According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and firefighters responded to a structure fire on State Route 141 near Ironton after early information suggested the blaze may have been intentionally set. When deputies arrived, they learned the fire had reportedly started on a couch inside the front room of the home following an argument between a man and woman who had recently separated. Deputies questioned the woman at the scene and asked whether she had been drinking. According to the report, she replied: “Yes, I have been drinking.” Investigators say the woman initially described the fire as an accident. But the situation quickly became more suspicious. “Because I Was Mad” Deputies later learned the woman had allegedly: taken photographs of the couch while it was burning and sent the images to the man during the fire Inside the home, investigators documented: heavy fire damage to the couch multiple holes punched in nearby walls and additional damage consistent with a violent outburst The man told deputies the woman had damaged the walls earlier in the day during an argument. After being taken to jail, the woman was interviewed again. According to the report, she admitted she had been: drinking heavily emotionally upset and angry over the relationship ending When investigators asked why she sent the photos instead of trying to extinguish the fire, the woman reportedly responded: “Yeah… just for anger.” Deputies say she later acknowledged she may have told the man she intentionally set the fire. The woman was charged with: arson disorderly conduct and transported to jail Handwritten Notes Revealed Troubling Mental State The next day, investigators say the man turned over text messages and handwritten letters allegedly written by the woman shortly before the fire. According to the report, two notes dated the same day as the fire were recovered. One letter was reportedly addressed to another man she had been romantically involved with and contained emotional statements about pain, regret, and saying goodbye. Another note addressed to the ex included multiple statements investigators described as suicidal in nature. According to the report, the woman wrote: that he would “finally be free” from her that she was tired physically and mentally and referenced possibly taking pills Investigators also recovered text messages allegedly showing the woman discussing: emotional pain drinking and feeling like “it’s almost over.” Deputies documented the messages and attached photographs of the notes to the case file.
