Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland will close its doors in September of 2020

In a statement, Bon Secours Health System – the parent company of the hospital—said that while they had worked hard to keep the 214- bed hospital going, there was just too much competition in the region.

Around 1,000 employees will lose their jobs.

Jason Asic, OLBH interim president, said, “We take the responsibility that comes with this decision very seriously, and we do not go into it lightly. “

He said they would work closely with employees to make sure they were aware of the shutdown timeline and to assist them with career fairs to find other employment opportunities.

Asic went on to say that the hospital would continue to care for patients and work hard to ensure they were able to transition smoothly to another healthcare provider.

Bon Secours is completely leaving acute care in the area, which will also affect system-owned care sites and its physician network Bellefonte Physician Services. Affiliated physicians include Ashland Family Medicine, Bellefonte Family Medicine Associates, Bellefonte Pediatrics, Bellefonte Pediatrics, and Bellefonte Primary Care.

Bon Secours Health System is a not-for-profit Catholic health system that operates hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living, and hospice facilities across the U.S.
