Portsmouth Police Officers responded to two calls of kids in danger less than five minutes apart on Saturday.
The first call came in from Kroger on Gay Street at 12:54 pm. A caller reported a woman acting in a verbally abusive manner towards a little girl. The witness said the pair had just left the store and were talking towards Chillicothe.
Police caught up with the woman a few minutes later and took her into custody on disorderly conduct charges. This was her 4th arrest. She’d previously been charged with domestic violence and being in contempt of juvenile court. Per the court, she was immediately released on bail.
At 12:57 pm, a Thomas Avenue caller reported an incident in Wayne Hills involving a babe in arms. The caller said a woman holding a baby was outside an apartment when a man came out and hit her with the baby in her arms. Then, they all went back inside.
Police contacted CPS and officers caught up with the man near the Sunset Lanes. The pair denied any physical altercation and the man said he just took a walk to clear his mind.
Officers notified them that CPS had been contacted and informed of the hostile home environment. Both parents indicated they understood.
