Baby Rescued After Frightening Incident

PPD came to the aid of a baby in danger and a hacker posts embarrassing photos on social media. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

A frightening incident involving a baby. A woman spotted a mom walking children along 125 just before 10:30 pm and took the woman to the ER at SOMC. However, when they arrived at the hospital, the woman jumped out of the car and ran into the woods with the baby.

Officers contacted CPS and located the woman in the woods. Hospital staff had to restrain the mother.

Her children were released into the care of their grandparents. 

Hey, That’s My Stuff!

Just after midnight, a Speedway employee reported a main in camo pants shoplifting from the store. The man agreed to pay for the items and was barred from the store.

Drunk and Drugged on Summit Street

A Summit Street caller reported a burglary just before 10 am. The man told police someone came into his home sometime in the past two days and stole numerous items.

He informed police that he was “a drunk surrounded by drug addicts” and there had been 14 people in his home for the past two days.  

Officers could not locate any witnesses or physical evidence.

Sad News

Officers were tasked with delivering sad news to a patient at a rehab facility.  Franklin County officials asked PPD to notify a woman that her brother had passed away.

However, it turned out she’d been moved to another rehab facility. Staff at the rehab facility said they’d get the necessary information to the woman. 

Hacked and Humiliated 

Just before 5 pm, a caller notified police that someone got hold of explicit photos from them from their private social media chat and was now posting the embarrassing images publicly on social media. The victim didn’t know who’d done it, only that they were using a Shawnee Statue University address. 

Officers advised the victim to close their account. 

Shooting Threats

A man contacted police at 7:10 pm to report that man punched his vehicle and threatened to shoot him on Gallia Street. 

The victim positively identified a suspect from a BMV photo and officers took information for a report.
