At 9:40 p.m. on Saturday night, all available officers from the Portsmouth Police Department were sent to 1819 Wayne Ave. According to the 911 caller, 10 people were fighting and at least one was struck with a baseball bat and needed immediate medical attention.

Police were requested to secure the scene in order for the medical response team to safely gain access to the victim.

Once 5 officers arrived, they advised that they did not see any activity. The caller then advised the group dragged the injured person into a nearby apartment to avoid police detection.

Dispatch received a description of both the male who had the baseball bat and the injured person.

The police began searching the area for both individuals.

They located the male victim who did not wish to receive medical treatment and did not want to “get anybody in trouble” for attacking him.

Police were advised by their supervisors to return to their vehicles and leave the area due to an uncooperative victim.

However, a resident who was near the outburst requested medical attention after being overwhelmed with fear and anxiety.
