Officers dealt with a beer-drinking burglar and a dog left out in the cold weather. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
A Robinson Avenue caller contacted police at 8:23 pm to report someone screaming for help at a house. Police spoke to the residents who said there was no disturbance.
Dangerous Situation
A caller contacted police at 9 pm to report that his carbon monoxide detector was reading high. A medic from the fire department confirmed the high levels.
They advised the resident to leave the home.
Beer Drinking Burglars Hit 30th Street Home
At 10 pm, a 30th Street caller contacted police to report that he arrived home to find his door kicked in and beer cans everywhere.
When officers arrived on the scene, they checked inside but didn’t find anyone. They advised the man to secure the door as best as possible.
Dog Left Out in Cold
A Summit Street caller contacted police just before midnight to report a dog out in the cold that should be taken inside.
When an officer arrived on the scene, a neighbor said the dog’s owner was at work and agreed to take the animal inside for the night and return it to the owner in the morning.
Under the Influence
- Police responded to a report of an overdose on Summit Street at 1:25 am. The victim was located in a parked car. By the time police arrived, the subject had been treated and fled the scene.
- At 6:36 am, a caller reported a man passed out in a vehicle at 6th and Campbell Avenue. An ambulance was dispatched, but it turned out the man was just sleeping.
Parking Problems
- Officers checked in with the owner of a camper improperly parked on Oakland Crescent. The owner explained she had COVID and had been unable to move it. She said she would hook up the camper to a truck.
- Police also checked in with a red pickup parked for at least 4 days on 7th Street. An officer spoke with the owner and told them they needed to move it before it was towed.
- Officers also cited a vehicle parked on Thomas Avenue with the bumper sticking out into traffic. They had the vehicle towed.
Hang-Up Call Leads To Bust
A hang-up call at 10:22 am, led to a bust. The hang-up call originally went to the county. The caller said they needed Portsmouth police and hung up
Multiple units rolled to the Mabert Road address where they discovered a man with out-of-town warrants. They took the man into custody. However, the county that wanted him refused to extradite him because it was more than 100 miles away.
Officers discovered several weapons at the home.
