Betty Smith recently interviewed Crystal and Robin, two employees at Sierra’s Haven, which is a pet shelter located off of Scioto Trail. In this interview, the group discussed how recent changes in government policy have affected their sales and routines.

In an effort to maintain Ohio social distancing guidelines, all adoptions have started taking place from the Sierra’s Haven parking lot instead of inside the building. Surprisingly, the group’s adoption rates have actually gone up over the last few weeks.

One of the difficulties the shelter has faced in this situation is its stricter adoption times. They can only adopt between 11-3 and the rise in adoptions has made it somewhat difficult to maintain social distancing while accommodating all of their customers.

Donations have been extremely important for the shelter during this time, and they explained that donations can be made on their website. Supplies can also be dropped off at their building. Sierra’s Haven also provides cat food for the community free of charge, but most of this food also comes from donations.

Both Crystal and Robin wished to thank all of their supporters and donors that have helped them during this time. Specifically, they wanted to thank the Boy Scouts for building them new dog houses and people from The Counseling Center who volunteered every week until recent events made it impossible.

With most people stuck in their houses, this is an excellent time to consider pet ownership and Sierra’s Haven is a great way to acquire a new furry friend.
