Body Discovered in West Portsmouth
A tragic discovery in a West Portsmouth home. Just after 5 am, a caller reported that a woman was not breathing.
EMS confirmed that the woman had passed. Witness said she was last seen alive and well at about 2 am.
Deputies contacted the coroner, who released the deceased to a local funeral home. The funeral home took charge of the departed.
Man Flees From Cops – Hides in Shed
A man took off from a traffic stop on Saturday afternoon, but officers caught up with him about five minutes later at the corner of Cottonwood and Elmwood.
The driver took off and ran into a shed, and police took him into custody shortly afterward.
Police took David Hammonds into custody for theft of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with a police order.
Officer impounded the car and took Hammonds to the Scioto County Jail.
After 2 days in jail, Hammonds was released (per the court) on his own recognizance.
Ambulance Shortage Delays Help For Elderly Man in Pain
An elderly man in pain had to wait for an ambulance. The caller said she’d tried to call Portsmouth Ambulance first, but they didn’t have a crew to respond.
Dispatch sent out two alerts after the call came in at 12:18 am and then asked Valley Rescue to cover at 12:30 am. When Valley didn’t respond, dispatch tried Rosemount. Finally, at 12:48 am, a crew from Nile Township called in to say they could take the call.
Car Ends Up in Ditch After Argument
Just after 8 am, a caller told police that two people were arguing while riding in a car on St. Rte 73. The passenger grabbed the wheel and ran the car into a ditch.
A few minutes later, a witness to the incident called back to say they had the vehicle out of the ditch and were headed to the courthouse to file a protection order against the passenger.
