A body was discovered in a Willow Way home in Portsmouth, Ohio on New Year’s Day. The unusually active day saw Portsmouth Police respond to two DOAs, 7 overdoses, multiple fights, and a couple of guys who didn’t mind dropping trou and taking a dump in front of railroad workers.

Angry New Year To You
- Just after 12:30 am, officers answered a call to Richard Road for a report of domestic. Police took a woman into custody.
- About 20 minutes later, a caller reported that a man started a fistfight in the parking lot Speedway. Officers were unable to locate him.
- At 1:46 am, a Robinson Avenue caller reported a man and woman fighting. It turned out it was just a toddler who didn’t want to go to bed.
- A Summit Street caller said her mom’s boyfriend showed up at her house drunk and busted out windows. Police could not locate him.
- At 9:29 am, officers responded to the Scioto Trail for a report of a husband beating his wife. The man already left by the time police arrived. Officers took a report.
- Police responded to Bannon Park for a report of two women arguing by the basketball court just after 2 pm.
- Just after 6 pm, officers responded to a report of a father and son arguing on Center Street. The dad told police the son cussed him out. Police advised them all to calm down.
- At 6:42, police answered to the Woodbine Apartments for a report of two men fighting in the parking lot. Officers could not locate them.
Car on Fire
At 1:14 am, a caller reported a vehicle on fire at the Park and Ride. The Ohio State Patrol responded to the call.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
- Police returned to the Speedway at 3:27 am for a report of a shoplifter. By the time officers arrived, he had placed the cookies he allegedly tried to steal on the counter and agreed to buy two pizzas and leave. Police served the man with a letter barring him from the property.
- A customer stole an employee’s bag from the Taco Bell on Gallia at 3:47 pm. Security cameras captured the incident. Police took information for a report.
- The Dollar General on Harding reported a shoplifter just before 4 pm. Security cameras also captured this incident on video.
- Kim Hill Real Estate reported stolen floodlights just before 8 pm.
Breaking and Entering At Home
Police responded to Summit Street for a report of a drunken man who forced entry into his own apartment and damaged a window. His girlfriend arrived and said she’d look after him.
Stranger at the Door
A stranger showed up at the door of a 6th Street home just before 4:30 pm. The man told police he thought he was at a friend’s house.
Officers advised him to stay off other people’s property.
Under The Influence
- A caller reported a man overdosing on 11th Street at 8:27 am. He drove off in a red vehicle. Police could not locate him.
- Police returned to Speedway once again at 10:35 am for a report of a man overdosing. He attempted to leave but Portsmouth Ambulance blocked his car in. Police detained two men. The Scioto County Jail refused to take one of the men but said they would hold the second man.
- Officers responded to an overdose call on 8th Street at 7:15 pm. Medics assisted the victim.
- Cops made a return trip to Speedway on Gallia at 8 pm, after a caller reported an apparently high man standing by the ice machine. The man refused medical treatment.
- At 9:22 pm, a caller reported an overdose on Wayne Avenue. Medics transported the man to SOMC
- Officers responded to a reported overdose on 17th Street at 10:28 pm. PFD transported the man to the hospital.
DOA
At 12:30 pm, officers answered a call for a possible overdose on the Scioto Trail. At 12:36 pm, medics advised police the man was dead.
The coroner arrived to pick up the body at 1:30 pm.
DOA: Part 2
First Responders answered a call to Willow Way to check on an elderly resident at 2:47 pm. They forced entry and discovered the woman had died.
Officers contacted a family member. After the body was removed, they resecured the residence.
Take Your Crap Somewhere Else
Norfolk Southern Railroad called police at 5:47 pm to report 2 guys hanging out on railroad property. The men were watching the workers and also reported defecated on the property.
Officers advised the men to leave.
