Body Discovered on 5th Street
Officers responded to 5th Street after a caller said they found a woman dead in her apartment.
Portsmouth Ambulance also sent a squad to the scene and confirmed the victim was deceased. Officers notified the next of kin who requested the deceased be taken to a local funeral home.
Suspicious Couple Cases Houses on 20th Street
A concerned 20th Street caller, reported a couple had been casing empty houses in the area. She said they attempted to break into a house on Saturday and had returned to the area today.
The man was described as having short hair and neck tattoos. The caller said the woman dropped some items that appeared to belong to a nurse.
Officers did not locate the pair, but did impound the found items for safekeeping.
Squatters Refuse to Leave Summit Street Home
An angry homeowner contacted PPD at 1:27 pm to report there were six people squatting in a home she owned and she wanted them to leave.
Police assisted, and most of the individuals left the home, though two claimed they were paying rent.
The homeowner called again at 3 pm to report the squatters had returned to the property. Officers were unable to locate the squatters.
At 5 pm, the owner of the House of Bargains building on Gallia Street said people were removing boards from the windows, but no one was allowed around the building. The caller said the woman was removing the boards to allow cats into the building.
However, she left the scene before officers arrived.
