Sources close to the situation told SCDN that the deceased individual could potentially be Claude Campbell, a person who was set for trial on charges from a previous shooting incident.

Claude Campbell, 56, from Mabert Rd in Portsmouth, was involved in a shooting back in October 2022. According to the Portsmouth Police Department, Campbell allegedly shot another man in the groin in the 2000 block of Mabert Road.

The victim was found with a gunshot wound and was immediately transported to a local hospital before being transferred to a trauma center in Columbus in critical condition.

Campbell had just been notified that he was to go before the Judge on July 19th, according to Scioto County Common Pleas Court records. The circumstances surrounding Campbell’s death raise questions about the potential connection between these two incidents.

As further details emerge, SCDN will continue to provide updates on this evolving story.
