Body Recovered From Ohio River – Cops Need Help Identifying Victim

Body recovered from Ohio River

Authorities are asking for the public’s help after a body was recovered from the Ohio River.

Right now, investigators are focused on one heartbreaking priority: figuring out who the person is and getting answers to their family.

Officials say even small pieces of information could help identify the victim.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact dispatch at 606-796-0982.

The recovery happened after a 911 call came in around 4:37 p.m. reporting a body in the river near a park.

Emergency crews responded quickly and located the body in the water. The scene was secured while the individual was recovered under the direction of the coroner.

The incident happened in Lewis County, with agencies including the Vanceburg Police Department, Lewis County Emergency Management, the Lewis County Coroner’s Office, and the Vanceburg Fire Department responding.

Officials say the victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed, and investigators are checking with nearby jurisdictions and communities upriver in hopes someone may recognize the person or know who is missing.

The body has been transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for further examination.

Lewis County Emergency Management Director Dennis Brown said identifying the victim and notifying family members remains the top concern.

“We know someone, somewhere, is worried about a loved one,” Brown said.

The case remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released.
