Boy rescued from cage
Officers rescued a young boy being forced to live in a dog cage. He was surrounded by more than 600 animals in Henry County, Tennessee. The animals included snakes, dogs, rats, roosters, chickens, and more.
Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew stated authorities responded to an anonymous tip about animal abuse. When they got there, they made a shocking discovery that took things from bad to worse.
A 1 1/2-year-old boy was discovered, surrounded with stuffed animals, inside a cage.
Authorities said the child had been confined there for an extended period of time. There was an overwhelming smell of urine coming from the cage infested with various bugs.
An official said the scenario was “heartbreaking”. The boy was “living just like the animals.”
Here’s the inventory of animals removed from the property:
- 531 mice, hamsters, rats
- 56 dogs
- 8 snakes
- 86, chickens, roosters
- 10 rabbits
- 4 parakeets
- 3 cats
- 1 pheasant
- 1 Gecko
- 3 sugar gliders
- Oh yeah, and the boy living in the damn cage!
If that wasn’t enough, there were also 127 marijuana plants and 17 guns found on the property.
Heather Scarbough, 42, Thomas Jefferson Brown, 46, and Charles Brown, 82, are charged with multiple felonies including aggravated child abuse, aggravated cruelty to animals, also firearms and drug charges. Officials say there will likely be more charges coming.
