A woman visiting her grandparents in Wheelersburg called Scioto County deputies Tuesday afternoon after noticing bruising on her grandmother and becoming concerned about her care.
The caller told deputies she worked in hospice care in Columbus and was a mandated reporter. Adult Protective Services was contacted, and deputies went to the home to investigate.
The woman said she had noticed bruising on her grandmother when she arrived the previous evening.
Deputies spoke with family members who explained that the grandmother was receiving hospice care and had serious medical conditions. Her son said she had broken her hip earlier in the year and had recently received a blood infusion that pooled in her arm. He believed that was what the caller had mistaken for bruising.
The son also told deputies that his father had Parkinson’s disease and experienced confusion later in the day. He said the elderly couple had moved into his home so the family could care for them.
According to the deputy’s report, the family attributed the grandmother’s visible marks to medical issues, and no physical abuse was reported in the deputy’s findings.
The sheriff’s log does not indicate that anyone was arrested or that criminal charges were filed.
