A report of a man allegedly assaulting a woman and pulling children from a vehicle outside Buffalo Wild Wings led to a dramatic arrest and a list of serious felony charges.
Portsmouth police were dispatched to the restaurant on Chillicothe Street after callers reported a man in a gray shirt was attacking a woman in the parking lot.
According to dispatch information, callers reported the incident involved two vehicles and that children had been pulled from one of them during the disturbance.
🚔 POLICE MAKE ARREST
When officers arrived, they quickly took the suspect into custody.
Police arrested Jonathon Spoljaric and booked him into the Scioto County Jail.
⚖️ MULTIPLE SERIOUS CHARGES FILED
According to court records, Spoljaric is facing charges of:
- Felonious Assault
- Strangulation
- Assault
- Probation Violation
The charges suggest investigators believe the incident involved more than a simple argument and may have escalated into a violent physical confrontation.
🚨 WHY STRANGULATION CHARGES ARE TAKEN SO SERIOUSLY
In recent years, Ohio lawmakers and prosecutors have placed increased emphasis on strangulation cases because they are considered one of the strongest warning signs of potentially lethal domestic violence.
Studies have shown that victims who have been strangled face a significantly higher risk of future serious injury or death.
Because of that, police and prosecutors often treat such allegations as high-priority cases requiring immediate investigation.
👀 PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED
Spoljaric is currently being held in the Scioto County Jail and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on June 18.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court
