A string of burglary and break-in calls kept Scioto County deputies busy, including one West Portsmouth woman too frightened to even search through her own trailer after discovering someone had been inside.
🚨 WOMAN AFRAID SOMEONE MIGHT STILL BE INSIDE TRAILER
Deputies were first called to 13th Street in West Portsmouth after a woman discovered the trailer she uses for storage had been broken into.
According to the report, the woman already knew an air conditioner was missing—but she told deputies she was too afraid to fully search through the trailer because she feared someone could still be hiding inside.
The caller also discovered a piece of mail lying in the driveway that she believed may have belonged to whoever had been there.
Deputies later went to the address listed on the mail in an attempt to speak with the person connected to it, but no one answered the door.
Officers said they would provide extra patrols in the area.
🐴 HORSE TACK, CASH, TOOLS STOLEN IN FRANKLIN FURNACE
Meanwhile, deputies were called to Big Pete Road in Franklin Furnace after a large number of items disappeared during a burglary.
Among the stolen items reported:
- Weed eater
- Leaf blower
- Battery chargers
- Post hole digger
- Drill set and saw
- Gas can
- $270 cash
- Two Amish-made horse saddles
- Two horse bridle sets
Deputies took information for a theft report.
🏠 “SOMEONE BROKE INTO MY HOUSE”
Then around 1:30 a.m., deputies responded to Dogwood Ridge in Wheelersburg after a caller reported someone had broken into their home.
Officers checked the property but said they did not find anyone inside.
👀 WHY BURGLARIES FEEL SO PERSONAL
Police say break-ins affect people differently than many other crimes because victims often feel violated long after the theft itself.
For many homeowners, the worst part isn’t the missing property.
It’s wondering:
- Who was inside
- How long they were there
- And whether they might come back
⚠️ HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY
Deputies recommend:
- Locking storage trailers and outbuildings
- Using motion lights and cameras
- Recording serial numbers
- Keeping expensive tools out of sight
- Reporting suspicious vehicles or people quickly
Because thieves today aren’t just targeting electronics.
They’re stealing everything from air conditioners to horse saddles.
