Portsmouth police handled two unusual overnight calls involving a report of people dragging something on fire down a street and a later assault-and-robbery complaint at the Party Time Bar.
Something on Fire Dragged Toward Camper
Just after 1:30 a.m., police were called to Vermont Street after a caller reported seeing a man and woman dragging something that was on fire in the roadway.
The caller said the pair appeared to be moving the burning object toward someone’s camper.
Officers checked the area and also looked around a possible Summit Street residence, where they found a back door completely unsecured.
Police did not locate the man and woman described in the call or find anyone injured.
The fire department was asked to stand by while officers investigated.
The report did not indicate what the burning object was or whether anything was damaged.
Assault and Robbery Report at Party Time Bar
Around 3 a.m., police were called to the Party Time Bar on 4th Street after a man reported that two men had assaulted and robbed him.
The man told officers he believed the suspects would be headed toward Sheridan Road in a large white Ram truck.
Officers later located men outside a Sheridan Road residence and detained one person while they investigated.
Police took information for a report, but no arrests were made.
An ambulance was called to the bar for a man with a busted lip and heavy bleeding. He was treated at the scene but was not transported to the hospital.
The report did not provide additional details about what was allegedly taken.
