It was a wild Sunday across Scioto County as emergency responders dealt with everything from domestic disputes and medical emergencies to traffic snarls, false alarms, and one punch-throwing showdown.
In total, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, and local fire departments responded to 66 incidents across the county. While we used to be able to bring you detailed breakdowns of each call, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office made the decision in early 2025 to stop providing Scioto County Daily News with full call logs. Still, we remain committed to public transparency and are bringing you everything we can based on the records that are still available.
🚑 EMS & Fire Calls
Emergency medical services had their hands full, responding to 27 medical-related incidents. Here’s a breakdown:
- Medical Transports: Squads transported patients from Center Street, Simmering Street, Gallia Pike, Josephine Drive, and other locations to area hospitals.
- No Transport Needed: In a few instances — such as US Hwy 52, Mary Street, and Waddell Road — EMS responded but did not transport patients.
- Canceled Calls: A few calls, such as the one on 13th Street, were canceled before EMS could respond.
- Accidents with Injuries: Two injury crashes were reported — one on Shela Boulevard and another on St. Rte 140.
- Fire Call: Fire crews rushed to a report of a blaze at Country Living Assisted Living on US Hwy 52, which turned out to be a false alarm.
🚓 Criminal & Suspicious Activity
Deputies responded to a range of criminal complaints and suspicious situations:
Domestic Disturbances (4 Reports)
- Incidents were reported on Big Bear Creek Road, Railroad Hollow Road, Gallia Pike, and at a rest area on US Hwy 23.
Suspicious People/Vehicles (6 Calls)
- Deputies were called to Clark Street, 16th Street, Bond Road, and even West Portsmouth High School, where a suspicious person received a warning.
Threats & Assaults
- A fight broke out on McDermott Pond Creek Road, ending with an arrest.
- A report of threats/harassment came from Maple Street.
- Deputies also investigated an assault on Gallia Pike, though no transport was needed.
Investigative Complaints (10+ Reports)
- Calls came in from across the county, including Washington Blvd, Russell Ave, Wilson Street, Millers Run-Back Run Road, and the Scioto County Jail.
🚗 Traffic Trouble
If it felt like you were sitting in more traffic than usual Sunday — you probably were.
- Traffic Jams & Road Blockages were reported in at least six different locations, including Main Street, Shepherd Avenue, and Feurt Hill Road.
- Disabled Vehicles were a common headache, with breakdowns along Dogwood Ridge, St. Rte 335, River Road, and other trouble spots.
- Two non-injury crashes occurred, including on Luther Road and at Bonser Run/Milldale Road.
🔔 Alarms and Miscellaneous
- Five alarm drops came in from Hayport Road, Stewart Hollow Road, St. Rte 335, and the Elks Country Club — all false or canceled.
- Deputies were also dispatched for civil processes, escorts, patrol checks, and follow-ups.
