Can I Get COVID After Vaccination? YES, You Can.

Not only can you still get COVID after being vaccinated, in fact, Chris Smith the Health Commissioner for the City of Portsmouth says,  “it is not unusual that someone that had been fully vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine to actually still catch the virus.”

People reach out to us many times per day. We encourage that through the “Submit a Tip” link on our website. This conversation stream has lead to some interesting discoveries. This is certainly one of them.

We were getting messages from the community that they were getting COVID positive tests AFTER they had both rounds of vaccinations. After several of these, we were compelled to find some answers. Larry Mullins, the Scioto EMA Director helped us reach out to get the official word.

Chris Smith was very candid with us and we appreciate that. Report without Bias. Tell the Truth without Compromise. He did just that. Let’s review his message to us.

“The vaccine does not prevent a person from catching the virus, however, it lessens the severity of the virus. It keeps you from getting sick enough from the virus to end up in the hospital or dying from it.

What is still not known is if the vaccine keeps you from being a carrier without symptoms. That will not be known for some time as more people get vaccinated and research is done.”

So, you can certainly still get COVID after the vaccination. In addition, you could be one of those dreaded asymptomatic carriers.

We all want a magic pill, the perfect treatment, the “one-and-done” solution. The TRUTH is: we don’t.

The vaccination is important and there are some very important reasons to take it. There’s no doubt that lives are being saved. Just don’t be lulled into a false sense of security that you are now impervious to the ever-changing strains of this virus.
