Car Break-Ins Continue

vehicle car break in

We’ve been reporting on a string of car break-ins all over Portsmouth this week, and the crooks show no sign of letting up.

Just before 11 a.m., officers were called to the 2900 block of Cedar Street after a caller said someone broke into their vehicle overnight.

At the same time, a 19th Street caller reported that someone took items from their vehicle.

Just a few minutes later, a 5th Street caller said someone broke into their van and took items.

Officers received another report of a break-in on High Street at 6 a.m. the next morning.  In all cases, police took information for a report.

Experts suggest the following tips to prevent break-ins:

1. Always lock your car doors and windows. Locking up is the most effective way to prevent theft.

2. Never leave valuables in plain sight. If you must leave something in your car, hide it in the glove compartment or trunk.

3. Park in well-lit and populated areas. Thieves are less likely to target cars in areas where they are easily seen.

4. Install an anti-theft system. Alarms, steering wheel locks, and other security measures can deter thieves.

5. Be aware of your surroundings. If something seems suspicious, report it to the authorities.

By following these tips, you can help keep your car and belongings safe from theft. Stay vigilant and take precautions to protect your property.
