Portsmouth police uncovered a vehicle tied to a Chillicothe shooting when they spotted it parked outside a PMHA apartment on 15th Street around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Officers sealed the vehicle’s doors, hatch, and hood with integrity tape, photographed the exterior, and then called for a tow truck to impound it as evidence. While the Portsmouth report did not detail the exact crime, Chillicothe police confirmed the car is connected to a late-night shooting on East Water Street.
The incident unfolded just before 10 p.m. Monday, when witnesses reported gunfire near East Water and Rose streets. According to investigators, three men inside a passing vehicle fired multiple rounds out the window in a drive-by style assault.
More than a dozen shots were heard, and officers recovered nine shell casings at the scene. Thankfully, no one was injured, though police are treating the case as felonious assault.
The investigation is ongoing.
