Chair Project Turns Into Knife Threats, Mud Wrestling, Crashed Motorcycle and Arrest

chair assault

What reportedly began as dinner and a request to fix a powered recliner spiraled into one of the strangest domestic violence calls Lawrence County deputies have handled in recent weeks.

By the end of the night, deputies say the incident involved:

According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on County Road 21 after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance.

When deputies arrived, they found a woman sitting on her porch covered in mud and dirt.

The woman told deputies she had invited her ex-husband over for dinner and asked him to help assemble a newly delivered powered chair.

According to the report, things quickly deteriorated when the chair allegedly still would not work after he attempted repairs.

The woman told deputies she then tried to discuss unpaid bills and car payments with him.

That’s when the situation allegedly exploded.

According to her statement, the man became enraged and threatened:

“I’ll slice your guts out and watch you die.”

She alleged he then pulled out a knife and pushed it toward her stomach.

The woman told deputies she followed him outside because she feared he would damage her vehicle if he left angry.

What happened next sounded more like a scene from a reality TV meltdown than a powered recliner repair.

According to the report:

Deputies also noted the woman reported prior violence and claimed a previous altercation with the man had left her with a fractured shoulder.

Then Came the Counter-Story

After deputies arrested the man and transported him to jail, he provided his own dramatically different version of events.

According to his statement:

He denied threatening her with a knife.

Instead, he claimed the woman herself had been armed with a knife and allegedly stabbed at his motorcycle tire while he tried to leave.

According to the report, he told deputies the woman’s actions caused him to lay the motorcycle down in the driveway.

He also claimed she later helped him pick the bike back up before he left the property.

A Domestic Dispute With Layers of Chaos

Deputies ultimately arrested the man on a domestic violence charge following the investigation.

The incident highlights how quickly emotionally charged disputes between former couples can spiral — especially when:

all collide at once.
