Change Jar Vanishes — And So Did His Gun

change jar and gun vanish

He stepped out for a short while. When he came back, something small was missing. Then something much bigger.

According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a theft complaint after a man returned home and discovered his gallon jug of loose change had disappeared.

The man told deputies he had been gone for about an hour and a half and had left a side door open so his dog could come and go. When he got back, he went to drop his pocket change into the jug he regularly uses — but the jug was gone.

That’s when he started looking around.

While most of his belongings were still in place, he reported that a firearm — a Taurus Judge revolver — was also missing from between the cushions of his couch.

Deputies spoke with neighbors, who said they had been outside mowing and didn’t notice anyone coming or going during that time. However, they couldn’t rule out someone approaching from another direction.

The homeowner told deputies he would try to locate the serial number for the firearm, which had been purchased several years ago.

Deputies documented the incident, and the case remains under investigation.
