The search for a man who jumped out of a vehicle after a disagreement with his girlfriend around 4 am kept Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies busy for two hours.
Around 4 :20 am, dispatch received a report that a group of family members and a girlfriend were searching for a man who jumped out of a car on US 52 near St. Rt. 140. The family said they’d already been searching for forty minutes without luck.
Officers met up with family members and then joined in the search. They found one member of the search party on US 52 near the South Webster ramp. Officers determined he’d been drinking and would be safer off the road, so they dropped him back with other members of the search party and told him to just sit in a car.
The girlfriend called officers around 5:30 am, saying she’d walked out onto the train trestle and wanted a deputy because she feared she might fall through. Officers noted that several members of the search party had walked out in lanes of traffic.
Portsmouth Police also joined in the search, and officers spotted the boyfriend walking down Center Street around 6 am. A deputy caught up with the man on US 52 near the Greenup Bridge.
When family members arrived on the scene, the man asked that they leave, and officers told them to move along. The man did agree to meet up with the girlfriend near the Greenup Dam to pick the man up.
Offices said the woman was grateful for their assistance and apologized for the inconvenience.
