Charles Ernest Whitaker, 92, of McDermott, passed on to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was born July 11, 1932, in Floyd County, Kentucky, the eldest son of the late Ernest and Alka Whitaker.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 66 blessed years, Garnett, 4 brothers; Bobby Dean Whitaker, Billy Gene Whitaker, Burl Douglas Whitaker and Richard Franklin Whitaker, 2 sisters; Louella Applegate and Elanor Irene Whitaker.
Charlie is survived by his loving son, Charles Timothy (Tammy) Whitaker, a daughter, Beverly (John) Whitaker Eckels, a granddaughter, Shay White, 2 great-grandchildren, Alexa and Noah and a sister, Linda Klosowski.
Charlie was a member of Bible Chapel Church in West Portsmouth since 1995. He took great joy in being the church’s song leader. He enjoyed many services, leading beautiful hymns with Garnett playing the piano. Charlie’s unwavering devotion and love for his wife and children was limitless. Charlie enjoyed working with his son and helping maintain his lawn. In the past few years, mowing and maintaining his home, became his joy.
Charlie is now with the Lord, and his wish to reunite with his “world,” Garnett, is now fulfilled. He was a true servant to our Lord and Savior. Charlie gained the most beautiful home, a mansion in Heaven. How blessed to receive thy gift.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, July 26, 2024, at Bible Chapel Church in West Portsmouth, with Jack Lore and Rick Ratliff officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park in McDermott. Friends may call at the church on Friday starting at 12:00 PM Noon. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roger W.
