Charles Robert Hammonds, 79 of West Portsmouth, died Friday, March 13, 2026 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 15, 1947 in Montgomery, Kentucky to the late Charles and Nellie Hammonds.
Charles was a retired roofer.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Billy Hammonds, Harold Hammonds and Thurman Lee Hammonds, 2 sisters; Gladys Love and Silvey Monroe, stepson, Melvin Musser, and a step great grandchild Ayedin Helwig.
He is survived by his life partner, Rosetta Hobbs, a daughter, Heather Firestone, a son, Bobby Monroe, 2 stepdaughters; Beverly Ferguson and Valarie Swords, stepson, Gary Musser, granddaughter Shelby Johnson, great granddaughter Laci Johnson, nieces; Judy Journey, Joyce Scott, Misty Craft, Amy Love, Donna Monroe, Betty Gambill, Betty Love, Rosetta Bear, Connie Schrader, Teresa Miller and Lydia Stockham, nephews; Bud Monroe, Roger Monroe, Rick Monroe, Raymond Allen, Mike Hammonds, Jeff Hammonds, Leonard Love and Stewart Love, step grandchildren; Quin Conkel, Deanna Ferguson, Timothy Hobbs, and Tiffani Ferguson, step great grandchildren; Josh Conkel, Haven Conkel and Anson Smith.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with David Monroe officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday starting at 11:00 AM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the funeral home.
